Two days ago I had to teach my class on anti slavery events. I specifically chose Harpers Ferry to focus on. Heres what they learned. On October 16, 1859, John Brown led a group of his supporters into a small town known as Harper’s Ferry.

When John and his men arrived they captured high ranking citizens and took control of the federal

Armory and arsenal. Brown hoped that slaves would join in the rebellion and spread the weapons to other slaves and freedom fighters across the country.

His efforts to launch a rebellion were brought to a halt in less than 36 hours after his siege started.
