On top of receiving the information on Harpers Ferry the class also learned more about John Browns Raid. In making the slides to present to the class I gathered and retained a lot of information as well. Collectively we learned that U.S. Marines under Colonel Robert E. Lee arrived and proceeded to storm the engine house, where Brown took refuge, and killed many of the followers and captured Brown. Brown was then put on trial in the South and was charged with murder, treason, and slave insurrection. It was because of these charges that he was eventually sentenced to death for his crimes.Although his actions were met with severe consequence in the south, they were met with admiration in the North and on the day of his execution church bells played and paintings were created in his honor.
